Compensation: $20.00/hr

Position Description

We are seeking a self-motivated and experienced professional who is passionate about community building, public art, emerging music and presenting creative events in an urban setting. 

The Event Marketing Specialist will play a central role in supporting programming and outreach for the annual Up Here festival. This position coordinates all aspects of Up Here communications and accessible public outreach by liaising with the communications team, maintaining relationships with media outlets, planning community partnerships and outreach, and executing Up Here and We Live Up Here’s social media pages. Under the direction of the General manager, this position will ultimately be responsible for communicating Up Here messaging and activities to our festival community at local, national, and international levels.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate may possess:

  • Experience with festival or event communications within the arts sector;

  • High-caliber skills in social media campaign and communication strategies and execution;

  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills with a variety of audiences including: media, artists and broader community;

  • Understanding of measurement and results in correlation to executed marketing strategies;

  • Strong organization and problem solving skills as well as the ability to take initiative, meet deadlines, and effectively manage priorities;

  • Exceptional listening and interpersonal skills with a strong sense of empathy;

  • Ability to process and interpret critical feedback into work;

Key Responsibilities

The Event Marketing Specialist will collaborate with the General Manager to:

  • Uphold a safe and inclusive space for co-workers, volunteers, artists, and patrons, including taking actions to ensure an environment free of harassment, racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia;

  • Create and coordinate robust Communications plan and execute marketing and communications strategies;

  • Coordinate social media, web communications, digital marketing campaigns, design, and content creation;

  • Facilitate inter-organizational communication and partnerships;

  • Assist in development of sponsorship and in-kind donations from private & public agencies;

  • Negotiate and preparation of contractual documents for media partners;

  • Publicize the Up Here festival to a full range of media outlets (print, radio, television, internet) meeting the organization’s strategic goals through the development of press releases, newsletters, social media content, interviews, etc.;

  • Develop targeted story pitches and publicity for festival programming, coordinate press packages and media release dissemination, including writing press releases and other communications materials;

  • Develop and execute audience development strategies in collaboration with the Programming Team;

  • Coordinate press interviews with participating artists;

  • Coordinate festival accreditations and promotions, including: ticket giveaways, invitations to key stakeholders, contesting, and any presence in co-presenters’ publicity materials;

  • Collaborate with the larger Up Here team on the successful execution of the festival;

  • Provide leadership and coordination of the Up Here communications team of volunteers including content creators, blog writers, photographers, videographers, translators, etc.;

  • Develop social media and communications reports;

  • Maintain Up Here festival's website, database of new pieces of public, and continued Search Engine Optimization of existing and new content in order to maintain and increase discoverability;

  • Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with our community;

  • Respond in a timely fashion to email, phone and all other communications; 

  • Participate in any required team meetings;

  • Maintain the organization of personal and confidential information;

  • Other duties as needed.
